Remember this? Who doesn’t get emotional when they went here? I know I did. It was so sad, such beautiful but tragic music… fit the night elf theme – with the devastation of all that was lost, you feel it for them. Especially after seeing warbringers Azshara, wit the intact city, seeing Suramar – and now the bones and ghosts, of something that was so great, so lost. This is their birthplace you know, their first and greatest home, here they unlocked the secrets of the arcane, discovered the Goddess Elune and here they were first met by Cenarius too. Here they awakened. And here was the legacy left by a Queen who betrayed them and reached too greedily and too far.

It was perhaps the most moving moment ever for me in WoW… they managed to convey the profound sense of loss, and devastation, the tragedy of falling so far, with the music+scenery and my knowledge of the story – I must say , all 3 aspects were needed or else there’d have been no emotional connection

If anyone from blizzard ever reads this. The story matters, the work with the races, the building it up, it matters, the right artists and the right music score, to bring out emotional moments like this… it’s not easy for fantasy to move me so, but this did.

Do you want to know why I like night elves so much and want to see them to be back in at least 1 great city and 1 pristine great forest without any devastation – because I know how much they’ve lost from the lore, and it is because of this you want them badly to get a slice of it back, that is better than it ever was… to show after all that suffering, after all that loss, the future can be better than the past, the suffering was not all in vain, and despite all that loss. They recovered, and became better than everything they were before.

This gives any human who has endured loss, who despite errors, dedicate themselves to what was right – a 10,000 year vigil, 2 x genocide shouldn’t end in exile and extinction. It’s a terrible legacy and story to leave for human beings who watch and follow this.

Zin’Azshari speaks loudly for the lessons of folly, and we have the ruins of an amazing civilization all over the broken isles and north and western Kalimdor. They have the ruins, but what they don’t have is something to show that in the end, it was not in vain, and the future became brighter and better than the past.

So no, I don’t want the kaldorei empire to rule the world, no, just a night elven city that shows the best and supersedes all that has come before, with a temple and forest that surpass all – it says there is a future, you can recover and you can get better, and your sacrifices are not in vain.

I want it more for them than the Nightborne, even though the Nightborne are just night elves with different ears, they didn’t carry on an 10,00- year long vigil, they didn’t sacrifice anything, magic they loved, rebuilding lives, to stand watch and guard over the error of their race, which they themselves weren’t actually at fault but a ruler who betrayed them. Why should the reward the end game of these people be yet another slaughter, homelessness in Stormwind, nothing to show for it.?

Let this story end well, let new Elundris be combination of Suramar, Zin’Azsahri, with temple like the Cathedral of eternal night.

Let it sit atop an amazing new world tree like Shaladrassil, magical pool lake in the middle, with beautiful buildings of a new civilization around it. And a grove on an island in the middle with the most amazing forest on the outskirts.

This is the hallmark of a race or people truly redeemed, they restore the ancient ruins, what becomes is greater than what was.
I can just see them saying… maybe Prince Farondis or Malfurion or Tyrande – we’ve mourned our great losses too long, and held back in defense of others and this world, 10,000 years, longer than our race has been around. Our debt is paid, we are nearly extinct, if we are ever to survive and flourish again, we must look forward, be the best we have ever been, learning the lessons of the past and using the great knowledge of our people … we must rebuild better than ever before and never forget who we are – never repeat the error our Queen, never forget our roots. We are arcane, we are nature, we are the children of the hstars, and the Goddess is our mother.

And by the best I don’t mean dominate the world in a global empire – night elves aren’t by nature a conquering people, they are benevolent, and their first conquest was actually in defense.

By the best I mean the most advanced, having the best of all the things they do well, best nature stuff (new world tree, best forest ever they’ve had, new capital city showing the best and most magical they’ve ever been, with a good showing of night elf civilization both urban and forest throughout their zones, whether it is 1 zone, 4 zones, or the19 zones in game themed after them, not the whole world, but enough to show off the best, that they can be the best again some day, and they’ve started to be again.
