Hey all - I'll really miss being one of your devs.<3

I'm sorry I haven't been as active on reddit as I was in the past (at the risk of making excuses, this was very much a Me Thing that ties pretty directly into the mental health part, not because of anything on here but simply because I've lost a lot of the energy it took to properly write up the essay responses I like to leave). But I've still lurked for people's suggestions and thoughts even if I wasn't replying. More than anywhere, this has been the community that taught me a ton of things that I've tried to carry forward into how I approached things on Hearthstone, and am taking into this next project as well.

Thank you for all the fun times and feedback - it has nontrivially shaped me as a dev and I think made me a much better one, and I have a lot of happy memories here thanks to y'all.

Man Boomsday was a nutsy set cycle, but that's still one of my absolute favorites visually.:)

Haha the Warglaives were borrowed from a woman at Blizzard, but I guess I could always do a homebrew version of the make-up! ...Although I'm not sure which stage of the make-up you're supposed to gouge your eyes out at, I might only be able to do half the make-up.

It's not Peter's project, VFX usually come later in production, but we talked loads about his game when he was still technically on Hearthstone (he's one of my best friends, we talk a lot haha), and I made him some placeholder FX for his prototype pitch. So I still get to claim one or two fingerprints over there!:)

I'm hoping more will still happen! I wouldn't be in them, of course, but everyone at the office was really happy with how the last stream went and the team is full of amazing artists.

Very much what u/stonekeep said. The noticeable departures are the ones that happen to be pretty public-facing, but the vast majority of the team isn't, which means the vast majority of the work that goes into the game doesn't really have a face to it. And we backfill, those of us who stay at Blizzard are still around to knowledge-share, stuff like that.

It wouldn't be such a hard thing for me to leave if the people I were leaving behind weren't incredible, and people that I'd really enjoyed working with and respected as devs. So maybe I'm biased, but I think they're gonna keep doing awesome things, and they're working on a lot of rad shit right now.:)

Honestly the colorblind glows are still the single thing I'm happiest I got into Hearthstone, and it's one of those things that I just never would've known about if it weren't for reddit. So double-thanks really, haha.

I'm not moving to Peter's project, VFX usually come later on in production. I did get to help him out a bit with the pitch prototype back in its very early days though, so I've still happily got a fingerprint or two over there.:)

There will be lots of cool future VFX (and sooner or later, I'm sure that'll include some laser beams)!:D

Awww, thank you! It's always been such a surreal privilege getting to work on something so many people enjoy.

(And I'm so glad you liked Boomsday, that one was ridiculously fun. I still have Poultry Peter, he came home from the office with me for quarantine.:))

They were happy tears, now they're gay tears.:P

That makes me so happy to hear; seeing and meeting other LGBTQ+ (and women/feminine) people in games was always a huge deal for me, so a big part of why I wanted to make sure I was very open was in case it might make other people feel more comfortable too. There are lots of happily out people on the team (we have a whole squad:D), so there're still lots of people there to rep!<3

Four and a half years of VFX and those colourblind changes are easily the one thing I'm happiest to have been able to add to Hearthstone. I'm so so glad it's helped you!<3

<3 They are my good sweet sons, they're gonna keep doing sick legendaries! And their new lead is a guy I really respect and have always kinda wished I could work for because he's such a good mentor, so I think things will just keep getting better.:)

Not yet, but two years isn't very long to make a whole new game so I wouldn't have expected anything this soon.

I'm familiar with the VFX artist they just hired though and man his stuff is DOPE. I'm excited for whenever they announce.
