I've seen a lot of conversations about here and just everywhere about why the season starts during specific times.

There are a few factors...

1) We need to make sure we have people available to work on the backend just in case something happens. That includes devs and devs on our Battle.net teams to be around for any server/database issues that may come up. Quite a lot of people rush in at the start of a new season.

2) With the way D2R ladders are set as one global ladder, we have to choose a time that unfortunately will be disadvantageous toward some areas due to the timing. The tough part with D2 is that it is relatively popular in North America, Korea and Europe which all so happen to be conveniently on their own slice of the world. 5pm PT may not always be the time going forward but we will evaluate with each season and re-inform if anything does change with future seasons.
